Flighty
In my second year of University, Beakus director Leigh Hodgkinson visited as part of the Animator in Residence program. I was given the opportunity to assist on her latest animated short film about butterfly speed dating, ’Flighty’, with image editing for asset creation, compositing, and I also animated some of Lynda's lip sync.
My eyes and mouth were photographed and used to make the characters in the film. My eyes were used for Tony the moth (because Leigh said I have an impressive frown) and...I forget where my mouth went. Probably the closest I'll ever get to an acting job.
The film went on to Win the ’DepicT!Animation Award’ at the Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol in 2006.
Light Fish
While working on Flighty, Leigh took some time out of her busy schedule to host an After Effects workshop. She then tasked us with just two days in which to make a one minute film and was only allowed to animate using provided textures.
This is what I made.
The following week, this film was screened at the Riverfront theatre in Newport. Joy!
